Cromwell is a town located in Middlesex County, Connecticut. Named after Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Cromwell is also home to The Roman Catholic Padre Pio Foundation of America. Settled in 1691, Cromwell was originally part of the Mattabesset settlement, later known as Middletown. The specific area where Cromwell now sits was actually referred to as the Middletown Upper Houses, in relation to the area’s northern facing direction.
